TURNING POINT FoundationInclusion through sailing
Together, we create turning points
Whether someone has an intellectual or physical disability, or faces social disadvantage, courage and self-confidence help them to discover their own strengths and abilities. Experience shows that sailing can mark a turning point in personal development. To ensure that people facing disadvantage can also benefit from this, we support sailing associations and clubs in creating and expanding inclusive sailing programmes.
Through our various programmes, we provide long-term, practical support to sailing clubs and social organisations: financially, through staffing and by offering advice. Our team, which currently comprises around 20 experienced staff members, is based across Germany and can also support your sailing club with inclusive sailing programmes. Together with social organisations and institutions, we develop tailored plans for inclusion in sailing at a local level.

Why promote inclusion through sailing?
When sailing, the team works together to master the wind, the weather and the boat’s mechanics. The shared joy and sense of achievement lead to a feeling of self-efficacy, combined with increased self-confidence and a greater awareness of one’s own strengths. With this newfound courage, friendships are formed and challenges at school or in working life are better overcome. Regular sailing together marks turning points in many people’s lives – this is confirmed by our experience and the scientific research supporting our work. Our work has been evaluated by studies conducted by the Universities of Lüneburg and Flensburg.
Through our ever-growing collaboration with sailing clubs, sailing schools, charitable organisations, academia, politics, the media, the business sector and committed individuals, we have been able to help numerous people since 2022 achieve a turning point towards more self-determined participation through the sport of sailing.
The transfer of knowledge in theory and practice – the WENDEAKADEMIE – enables coaches to establish and support inclusive sailing programmes within their sailing clubs on a sustainable basis. This is because we are committed to fostering sustainable, long-term developments that lead to greater participation and inclusion through sailing.
